About this document
The February 2020 issue develops the idea that a DBA can be research that creates impact. For several years the institute has argued that such a programme goes beyond purely academic research and offers opportunities for managerial and societal impact, all the more so as the research is carried out by managers immersed in the real problems of their organisations. Two sources of inspiration are proposed: the article in Le Monde on Esther Duflo, co-laureate of the 2019 Nobel Prize in economics with Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Kremer for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty, and the Responsible Research in Business and Management initiative, which promotes a responsible perspective on management research. The newsletter then publishes the key figures for January 2020: 135 doctoral candidates enrolled, 57 Executive DBA theses successfully defended, 37 nationalities represented and 23 publications. A section on the impact of the Executive DBA gives the floor to Vincent Mottet, one of the institute's doctors, followed by the interview of the month, videos, publications, photo highlights, the agenda, admissions and news from management research. Taken together, these elements support the institute's argument that doctoral work carried out by practising managers can feed both academic debate and the concrete transformation of the organisations in which the candidates work every day.
